Living on the Word of God
|
Some find it hard to believe that one can base their life upon the word of God, yet the scripture tells us that the word of God is a sure foundation. We stand on the word of God by "faith." Faith is an action verb, in that it produces substance, or it is in the process of producing substance. In Hebrews chapter 11 verses one through three, it talks about how faith takes what we cannot see now [in the natural realm] to manifest itself from the spiritual realm into the natural realm. Consider the last statement in verse three, "so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear". If faith comes by hearing God's word, then we must apply His word by faith to produce the desire effect in our lives. Jesus said, "Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word of God" (Luke 4:4). How does man live by the word of God? We must learn how to apply it in our daily lives. One way of doing this is by renewing our minds through the reading of God's word. Hebrews 4:12 states, "the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the hearts." If the Word of God is a two edged sword piercing the soul and spirit, then one can rely on the Word of God to them live. In truth, the Holy Spirit helps one to see what the truth is through reading the word of God, meditating on the word of God, and confessing the word of God daily through prayer so that the individual heart is changed. When the individual heart is changed, then their mind has been renewed. The Word of God is the incorruptible seed. Many people have made the confession to believe that Jesus is the Son of God, born of the Virgin Mary, who died for the sins of this world, and arose from the grave to sit at the right hand throne of God. Once this confession of believe is made, the individual is born again, and the Holy Spirit is sent as the comforter and helper to guide the individual in a new life. The Holy Spirit helps one gain wisdom and understanding of what the will of God is through the reading of scriptures in order that ones minds may be renewed. Victory can be ours through the Blood of the lamb and the word of our testimony is His word applied within our lives. First Peter 1:23 states, "Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth, and abideth for ever." The Word of God is the incorruptible seed that lives and endures forever. Praise God! Christians speak the Word of God into every situation because it is alive. First Peter 5:8-9 states, "Be Sober, be vigilant, because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion walketh about, seeking whom he may devour, whom resist steadfast in the faith." We resist steadfast in the faith by using the word of God. However, some individuals make excuses, or allow other hindrances that rob them of the truth, which the Word of God has revealed. Consider the parable of the sower in Mark chapter 4, and see how the application of the word is important in our in lives in how we hear, apply it, and wait to see the results that is consider as "much fruit." Some of us hear the word of God, but do not allow it to settle down deep within our hearts. Satan then comes immediately to take the word away. Soon it is forgotten lost as if it was a fleeting moment where it meant something, but it is gone in the passing of time. There is another who hears the Word of God, and receives it in with gladness in their hearts, but it does not have long enough roots to withstand the storm. When trails and persecution arose for the sake of the Word, they could not persevere with patience, and were offended of the word and left the word for an easier way. Then there are some who hear the word of God, and are not able to comprehend fully and use it as their source, since they were overcome by their own concerns in this life of making money and paying bills. They soon become deceitful and lust for the things they could not have for they thought these things would satisfy them. Because of this lust, it choked out the word in their lives and made them unfruitful. Then their are those who hear the Word and received it into their hearts as if it was gold. These are they who meditate on His words day and night until they have received wisdom. They have learned to handle and apply the Word of God and are able to bring forth much fruit. The fruit in an individual's life is the result of faith by meditating on the word of God. The Holy Spirit helps us to become enlighten, whereby one can gain wisdom. Once you read the word, allow time for it to sink into your heart. Whatever it takes, read the word daily. We need to stop making excuses, or allow other hindrances from robbing us from the truth. As Christians, we are overcoming all kinds of problems through the word of God by our testimony, which is our confession. In Ephesians chapter six, it comments that we are to put on the full armor of God in order to stand against the evil one. We are to be armed with the sword of the spirit, which is the word of God. True Christians do not forget the word of God; they stand on the word despite the problems they face. Christians are careful not to choke out the word of God by seeking after things they cannot have; in other words, Christians live within their financial means and are good stewards of what they have. If they have a need, they place that need before God in prayer. Christians also learn to apply the word of God in truth. Christians do not manipulate the word of God to suit their own purposes, but rather they seek wisdom for understanding in order to live the truth of God's word. Christians do not have an easy life, but they should have a blessed life through our Lord and they are able to find the joy of the Lord through every situation. It is through much prayer and perseverance that Christians learn to wait patiently before the Lord to obtain wisdom and understanding in order to live a truthful life based upon God's Holy Word.
